In Loving Memory
Rebecca Palcheff
2/7/1911 - 6/28/2010

Rebecca Palcheff, beloved matriarch to three generations, was called by The Lord on June 28th 2010. Born in Exiso, Macedonia on February 7th, 1911, Rebecca recently celebrated her 99th birthday with a large gathering of family and friends.

In 1927, at age 16, Rebecca emigrated with her mother and brother through Ellis Island to Akron to be reunited with her father, George Chris. Rebecca met Andrew Palcheff at the Macedonian Patriotic Organization convention. Immediately love-struck, the couple courted then wed, beginning their marriage in Madison, Illinois. Together they raised three children, Carl, Jeannette, and Betty Jean.

Rebecca and the family returned to Akron in 1953 to reunite again with her parents and start a local business, “Andy’s Bar and Grill”. Rebecca joined fellow Macedonians at St. Elia the Prophet Orthodox Church. She volunteered with the Sisterhood of Saint Juliana and enjoyed cooking for fund-raisers in Baba’s Kitchen. She was renowned for her bean soup and was an expert baker. She loved her church and remained a lifelong member. Rebecca’s dream of providing a better life for her family continues to live through each of us.

Rebecca was preceded by her husband Andrew of Kosinitz, Macedonia, parents George and Tsina Chris, and brother William Chris. She is survived by her son, Carl A. (Rosemary) Palcheff; daughters Betty Jean (Norman) Wulff and Jeannette (Thomas dec.) Ritzman; grand-children Andrew (Wendy) Palcheff, Lisa Mathews, Eric Wulff, Rebecca (Dr. Kenneth) Lucas, Thomas Ritzman, John Ritzman, and great-grand-children Joshua and Logan Palcheff, Haylee and Hanna Mathews, and Marlise and Wilson Lucas. The family extends gratitude to Rebecca’s caregivers Theresa and Judy.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 1 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S.
